Planetarium 1c

Open for business again.

Welcome to the Yorkshire Planetarium

Welcome to The Yorkshire Planetarium web site. This is a mobile planetarium that comes to your school, or institution. You do not have the problem of organising trips for your students. All I need is a room big enough to hold the inflated planetarium that measures 6m wide by 7m by 4m high and one power socket. Please note that this industrial unit is an indoor unit and cannot be used outdoors. A school hall is ideal and it will hold up to 30 Primary School children with teachers, or 25 adults. It does have disabled access for narrow wheelchairs if required.

I have a degree in astro-physics and planetary science. I am an elected Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and also a member of the British Association of Planetaria. I also hold an enhanced current Disclosure and Barring certificate.

Do you as a teacher want your students to simply watch a film, or do you want them to be involved in a teaching experience? If you have not tried my shows you will be amazed at the reaction of your students and staff alike. My aim is to bring space to life and to show people our place within it, how it affects us on Earth and the enormous scale overall. I actively encourage questions from the students and I can assure you, you will not be disappointed.

I launched this as my own business in January 2015 when there were only 12 customers. Just two years later there were over 150, This has been mainly due to word of mouth recommendations from teachers who experienced The Yorkshire Planetarium. Bookings for 2019 – 2020 were the greatest since I started. Don’t forget it is never too late to boost your lesson content and inspire young minds with high impact content. Just contact me for available dates.

What you get when you book The Yorkshire Planetarium:

  1. HD films that have the ‘”wow” factor.
  2. Your students do not have to rely on listening to voice-over films but interact with a presenter with degree level knowledge that is up to date.
  3. The opportunity to have question and answer sessions as a separate lesson to enhance the experience (very useful and important for Year 5 upwards and recommended by teachers).
  4. Customer back up where you are able to send questions to the presenter after the visit and receive replies dedicated to the student who asked that question at no extra cost.

The Yorkshire Planetarium has been the central star attraction event for the Leeds Young Film Festival held in the Leeds Museum since 2017 and was there again in April 2019. The public feedback has always been completely positive with over 250 people from each event asking if they could have it at their school. Sadly 2020 has been cancelled for obvious reasons.

I would like to thank all my clients for the huge demand for my services and their kind comments after the shows. I look forward to seeing you all again in the future.

Most of my bookings are now coming from teachers talking together and recommending The Yorkshire planetarium to one another.
